Registration window August 19, 10:00 a.m. -August 24, 7:00 p.m.
Join us to visit a local vineyard that grows table grapes! On this field trip, students will be in the field during grape harvest, learning about a variety of grapes, including the world-famous Cotton Candy grapes, Moon Drop grapes, GumDrop grapes, and TearDrop grapes. Students will visit different stations explaining the varieties of grapes, and even have the opportunity to harvest grapes right off the vine with the help of a parent.
The students will be divided into 4 groups. There will be 4 stations in the vineyard with a Grapery representative at each station. There are four different grape varieties at this location within very close walking distance. The students will spend 10-15 minutes at each station, where they will taste a different grape variety, discuss the qualities of the grape they are tasting, and compare it to the other grape varieties they are tasting. Students will be learning about training grapevines to grow upward, supported by steel and wires, so the fruit is in the air. Students will be learning about what makes grapes sweet: the leaves receive sunlight and combine the sunshine with water and carbon dioxide to make sugar. Students will see and learn about how grape vines are watered, through hoses and how the grape vines take in water through their roots.
Heartland events are designed for families to attend together. Students need to be accompanied by an adult chaperone. If your student will be attending with another family, please email the field trip host to let them know once you complete your registration. Chaperones must be the legal parent or 25 years and older. All chaperones must be healthy, ethical people with the skills to be responsible adult chaperones.
