Morro Bay

20 State Park Rd, Morro Bay, CA 93442, and Morro Rock

Registration window February 6, 10:00 a.m. -February 12, 7:00 p.m.

This will be a fun day of learning in Morro Bay! We will start at the Morro Bay Museum of Natural History, and then drive ourselves to Morro Rock for an educational lesson!

The Morro Bay Museum of Natural History is located within Morro Bay State Park. The museum is situated on a hill above the bay and has panoramic views of the estuary, sandspit, Morro Rock and the Pacific Ocean. As the only Natural History Museum in the California State Park system, the museum features hands-on interpretive exhibits for visitors of all ages.

Lessons may include a guided outdoor nature walk and a rotation through the Museum of Natural History where students can learn at their own pace with their peers through self-guided exploration of the hands-on displays.

After the tour of the museum, we will travel to the base of Morro Rock and learn about sea otters, local wildlife, and Morro Rock with a docent from the Morro Bay National Estuary Program! They will provide binoculars (but you can bring your own, too), and we will observe sea otters up close!

Heartland events are designed for families to attend together. Students need to be accompanied by an adult chaperone. If your student will be attending with another family, please email the field trip host to let them know once you complete your registration. Chaperones must be the legal parent or 25 years and older. All chaperones must be healthy, ethical people with the skills to be responsible adult chaperones.

**To ensure the health and safety of all attendees, please do not attend a field trip or event if you, your student(s), or anyone in your household is ill or showing possible signs of illness.**

May I pay using my funds? This event is FREE!

What are the check-in procedures? Meet me in front of the museum entrance by 9:50 to check-in. I will be wearing a green shirt, my Heartland name badge, and will have a clipboard.

Does this trip have any height, weight, and/or age restrictions? This trip is best suited for 3rd-5th grade students, but any age can attend. Each person who attends a field trip or event must be registered through Ticketbud.

Is there on-site parking available? Parking is located near the museum and is free.

Can we pack snacks or lunch for this event or field trip? Water bottles only in the museum.

Bring snacks for the morning, and a picnic lunch to eat afterwards!

We will split into two groups after the museum, and one group will go eat lunch while the other goes to view the otters. Then we will switch.
