Take a 1-hour train tour narrated by your friendly conductor on the Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad and learn the area's amazing history. Students will learn about the history of the Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad. They will travel along the historical route where mighty lumberjacks felled the timber and flumes carried the lumber to the town of Madera. The conductor will tell of the history of the line, the trees, and the wildlife native to the area. There is also an opportunity to visit with a gold prospector who will show students how to pan for gold. Students will have access to the Thornberry Museum which offers a glance at logging camp life at the turn of the century. Students can also visit the bookstore for a collection of historical titles and railroad literature. This trip will also include a 1-hour long educational wildlife show featuring a red-tailed hawk, barn owl, skunk, ferrets, hedgehogs, snakes, and a turtle or tortoise. There might be snow if we are lucky!

Ticket cost:

  • Children ages 0-1 FREE
  • Students ages 2+ $25.00
  • Chaperones $27.00

*The price for tickets paid with a credit card will be slightly higher due to the Ticketbud processing fee.

Heartland events are designed for families to attend together. Students need to be accompanied by an adult chaperone. All chaperones must be healthy, ethical people with the skills to be responsible adult chaperones.

**To ensure the health and safety of all attendees, please do not attend a field trip or event if you, your student(s), or anyone in your household is ill or showing possible signs of illness.**

Please read our refund policy!

Refunds will not be given for any reason. As a courtesy, if you are sick or unable to attend a field trip, please contact the teacher, who planned the event to let them know so they do not wait at the venue for you.* Families who are no-shows may lose access to future field trips.*

May I pay using my student's planning amount? Yes! You can pay for your student's ticket and one chaperone ticket with your student's planning amount. Please select the "Student ticket paid with planning amounts through Procurify" and or "Chaperone ticket paid with planning amounts through Procurify" ticket options on Ticketbud. Complete the checkout process on Ticketbud. You will receive an email confirmation from Ticketbud once your order is complete. (If you do not receive an email please check your Spam folder.) This is the first step in reserving your tickets. Immediately after you receive confirmation from Ticketbud, you will move to step 2.
