The Kern County Career & STEM Expo is a career awareness event geared toward students and employers in Kern County. The focus of the event is to build Career & STEM awareness for tomorrow’s workforce. Employers from Kern County will have the opportunity to promote the different career opportunities available within their companies through an interactive booth. Middle school and high school students are invited to attend the event to learn more about the different career paths available to them in their community.

Vendor Booths

Over 100 employer exhibitors will have booths set up with demonstrations, hands-on activities, industry vehicles, and presentations on careers at the event. Students will be able to interact directly with employees from a wide range of companies participating in the event to learn about the various careers that their company offers. Please coach your students up on how to interact with vendors in a professional manner. Many of the vendors will have a giveaway prize that they will be giving to one “outstanding student” during the event.

Impossible Science Festival

The Impossible Science Festival includes a variety of hands-on activities that are STEM-based for students to interact with. The festival is located inside the main building and students will line up for entry outside near the southwest corner of the building. Students will want to allocate approximately 30 minutes for this activity if they wish to participate. Please click on this link to find out more detailed information about the Impossible Science Festival.

Explore CTEC

The CTEC campus offers a wide variety of career technical education programs that are available to all students in our community during their junior and senior year in high school. Students attending the event will be able to take a guided tour of the building to see the many unique learning spaces available. The starting point for the guided tour can be found near the exterior southeast corner of the main building. The tour will last approximately 20 minutes and will end in the MAC where the Impossible Science Festival is taking place. The first 200 students to take a tour will receive an event t-shirt.

Science Lab Activity

PG&E will be hosting science demonstrations in the science lab found inside the main building. Students access these demonstrations through the exterior entrance on the southeast corner of the main building. The demonstration will last approximately 20 minutes.

Live Demonstrations at Outdoor Stage

There will be live STEM and career-related demonstrations happening in the outdoor amphitheater area throughout the event. Demonstrations will include various robots, drones, etc. Each demonstration will last approximately 10 minutes.

This will be a self-guided exploration! There is so much to see and experience, and we want you to dive into where your passions and interests may lead you. You are free to leave when you have seen all there is to see!

Heartland events are designed for families to attend together. Students need to be accompanied by an adult chaperone. If your student will be attending with another family, please email the field trip host to let them know once you complete your registration. Chaperones must be the legal parent or 25 years and older. All chaperones must be healthy, ethical people with the skills to be responsible adult chaperones.

**To ensure the health and safety of all attendees, please do not attend a field trip or event if you, your student(s), or anyone in your household is ill or showing possible signs of illness.**

May I pay using my funds?

What are the check-in procedures? We will send out a map when we get closer to the date and indicate a place to meet up to gather badges and enter. Please meet me at 10:00 am! I will check in ahead of the group and pick up all the materials for you all. You will need the badges they give us for entering the event. Chaperones will need one as well.

Does this trip have any grade or age restrictions? Students must be in at least the 6th grade to attend. Younger siblings are not allowed to attend. Only one chaperone per family.

Is there on-site parking available? You can park free in the student parking lot under the solar panels. There will be a bus and van unloading zone but as individuals, instead, you will park under the solar panels! Overflow parking is in the neighborhood across from the school. You will most likely be in overflow parking since the parking lot fills up with vendor vehicles.

Can we pack snacks or lunch for this event or field trip? Picnic areas will be available at any time during the event for groups to eat lunch outdoors. Several food trucks will be available for anyone who wishes to purchase food or drinks at the event.
