Life Succs Without Plants: A Succulent Workshop- Heartland Charter School

Dive into a world of fleshy leaves, bizarre shapes, and incredible survival stories! This field trip invites students to explore the diverse and "juicy" world of succulents. Participants will discover how these resilient plants have adapted to dry, sunny environments by storing water in their leaves, stems, and roots. From the tiny "living stones" (Lithops) to towering cacti, we will explore various species, learn to identify their unique waxy textures, and understand how they thrive on neglect. The trip includes a picture book of what was learned, and students will participate in a hands-on propagation session, teaching participants how to grow new plants from a single leaf.

Heartland events are designed for families to attend together. Students need to be accompanied by an adult chaperone. If your student will be attending with another family, please email the field trip host to let them know once you complete your registration. Chaperones must be the legal parent or 25 years and older. All chaperones must be healthy, ethical people with the skills to be responsible adult chaperones.

Refunds will not be given for any reason. As a courtesy, if you are sick or unable to attend a field trip, please contact the teacher who planned the event and let them know so they do not have to wait at the venue for you.* Families who are no-shows may lose access to future field trips.*

May I pay using my student's planning amount? Yes! You can pay for your student's ticket with your student's planning amount. There are two steps to purchase field trip tickets with your student's planning amount.

Step 1. Reserve your ticket on Ticketbud. Please select the "Student ticket paid with planning amounts through Procurify" ticket option on Ticketbud. Complete the checkout process on Ticketbud. You will receive an email confirmation from Ticketbud once your order is complete. (If you do not receive an email please check your Spam folder.) This is the first step in reserving your tickets. Immediately after you receive confirmation from Ticketbud, proceed to step 2.

Step 2. Place an order for your tickets in Procurify. Search the name of this field trip in the Procurify catalogue and complete your order just like you would for any other order. Your spot on this field trip will not be confirmed until you have placed your order in Procurify. Failure to place an order in Procurify within 3 days will result in removal from the attendee list and manual deduction of your funds.

What are the check-in procedures? Families will meet at Madison Grove Park and will walk to the picnic table/shade structure. I will be at the end of one of the tables for check-in. I will be wearing Heartland attire.

Does this trip have any grade or age restrictions? This workshop is geared towards students in TK-6th grade; however, all ages are welcome. All attendees need a ticket. Only one chaperone per family is allowed.

Is there on-site parking available? Parking is free and in close proximity to the picnic tables.
