Bridging the Divide: History and Civic Conversation

Join PBS Western Reserve, the Braver Angels and the Cuyahoga County Public Library for a special program that explores history, civic dialogue, and how we engage with one another across political differences.

The event will begin with a preview screening of Ken Burns’ newest film, The American Revolution. Following the screening, participants will take part in the Depolarizing Within Workshop led by Braver Angels. This workshop helps participants look within to see how they are engaging or participating in polarizing ways. The workshop offers participants the tools to develop strategies for engaging in political discussion without demonizing the other side. It also shows how to constructively intervene in social conversations with likeminded peers.

The American Revolution, the latest film by Ken Burns, Sarah Botstein and David Schmidt, examines how America’s founding turned the world upside-down. Thirteen British colonies on the Atlantic Coast rose in rebellion, won their independence, and established a new form of government that radically reshaped the continent and inspired centuries of democratic movements around the globe.
