12th Annual Maafa Kebuka: Afrikan Spiritual Convocation
Saturday, May 17, 2025
11:00 AM - 05:00 PM
The Healing Field
16050 Arwood Road, Disputanta, VA 23842, USA
This powerful Afahye (festival) will allow a space for remembrance, reflection, and healing of intergenerational wounds from chattel slavery. This will be a Historic event that will include Youth Theater, Spiritual Baths and Healing Rituals that will manifest through Akom. Akɔm is a ceremony in which shrine workers and community members come together to allow the Abosom (deities) and Nananom Nsamanfoɔ (esteemed ancestors) to fill a void and bring messages, blessings, and overall guidance to the community.
Maafa Kebuka – means to see through the eyes of our ancestors the great destruction.
“The rationale for this Afrikan-centered preventive-intervention strategy is to provide an opportunity for Afrikans in the Americas specifically (but actually is applicable to both sides of the Atlantic) to annually reaffirm through ritual ceremony our connectedness and accountability to our Ancestors of the Trans-Atlantic enslavement experience/Afrikan Holocaust” – Dr. Kobi Kambon
