Chris Nankervis in Recital

St. George's Anglican Church, Travancore

Sunday July 1st 2018 2:00 pm –  3:00 pm

Heralding from a sold-out final concert from 2017, Friends of Music Series return in 2018 with a stellar lineup of top Melbourne emerging musicians, boasting from a variety of styles ranging from classical, folk to jazz and contemporary performances.

In July, we welcome one of FOM's team members, Chris Nankervis, to share his passion for the piano.

About the Artist
Chris is an emerging pianist who enjoys performing a wide range of solo and ensemble repertoire. Raised in rural Victoria, he developed a keen interest in both classical and contemporary music at a young age. Exposure to such composers as Beethoven, Mozart and Grieg by his late grandmother prompted him to pursue a career in music. Chris studied with Ian Holtham, Janine Sowden and Len Vorster at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, where he also studied conducting with John Hopkins and piano pedagogy with Mark McGee.
Chris has collaborated with young composers and worked with Big Bands, drama ensembles, choirs and performance artists. He has given world premieres, including one by USA composer Michael Pisaro for the Melbourne Festival. Committed to new music, he has commissioned a work for solo piano by Luke Hutton, with a new work for cello and piano due to be premiered early next year. An active teacher and accompanist, one of his future endeavours is to create a program that brings world-class music education to remote parts of Australia. His non-musical interests include Aussie-Rules Football and South-East Asian cuisines.

About the 2018 FOMS

Concerts at St. George's proudly presents the 2018 FOMS, showcasing top Melbourne emerging musicians!

Concerts at St. George's is voluntarily managed by a team of musicians with the vision to establish St. George’s Anglican Church in Travancore as a new music performance venue in Melbourne’s inner northwest. Aligned with this vision is the annual Friends of Music Series (FOMS), showcasing top Melbourne emerging musicians.

Your support for the local arts scene will be tremendously appreciated, with all proceeds from the 2017 FOMS concerts directly contributing to further enhancing the performance space at St. George's. The proceeds will also speak volumes for continuing the fundraising spirit for the Moonee Valley City community, and for continuing the vision for quality, affordable concert-going experiences for the local communities.

Stay tuned for more updates at www.concertsatstg.org!

The 2018 FOMS is proudly supported by CutCommon Magazine.
