Service and Sacrifice: A National Cemetery Visit- Heartland Charter School

Registration window April 28, 10:00 a.m. - May 5, 7:00 p.m.

In honor of Memorial Day, students and families are invited to participate in a meaningful educational visit to Bakersfield National Cemetery. This experience will help students learn about American veterans, the purpose of national memorials, and the sacrifices made by those who gave their lives in service to our country.

Students will engage in guided discussions, observation activities, and a remembrance moment designed to deepen their understanding of history, civic responsibility, and respect. This visit transforms history lessons into a powerful, real-world learning experience while encouraging reflection, empathy, and gratitude.

Heartland events are designed for families to attend together. Students need to be accompanied by an adult chaperone. If your student will be attending with another family, please email the field trip host to let them know once you complete your registration. Chaperones must be the legal parent or 25 years and older. All chaperones must be healthy, ethical people with the skills to be responsible adult chaperones.

What are the check-in procedures? Check in with the HST in charge a few minutes before the field trip begins at the office.

Does this trip have any grade or age restrictions? All ages are welcome, yet upper grades would benefit more.

Is there on-site parking available? Free parking on-site.
