Kids College Summer 2023

REGISTRATION ENDS 6/8/23 at MIDNIGHT!

Kids College is most appropriate for kids from Kindergarten through 5th grade.

Class Descriptions

PLEASE NOTE: Your child will be placed in FOUR of these classes and they will visit the same classes on both days.

You will be asked to indicate your top six class choices. We will work hard to get your children

into their top four class choices; however, that is not always possible with scheduling.

Therefore, sign up early!

If you need before or after care, please be sure to sign up for the "Child Registration (with before and after care). This enables your child to be dropped off as early as 8 am and picked up as late as 5:00 pm.

1. The Inventor's Lab

Find the inventor within you! Students will investigate how inventors work and make discoveries. You will engage in problem-solving, creative thinking, and collaboration through invention-based learning. You will even gain a glimpse into the world of inventors by using “Little Bits” kits (hands-on learning system that enables students to learn STEAM, then challenges them to apply these concepts to solve problems)!

2. Mystery STEAM Challenge

Do you like a challenge? Experience the Engineering Design Process to solve a problem using specific tools and a variety of crafting and recycling materials provided. Participants will collaborate with a small team to design and model solutions to real-world problems.

3. The Art Lab

Discover your imaginative and artistic potential! As a young artist you will be exposed to an assortment of different art experiences. We will also work with different textures and supplies, including paint and clay, to design one of a kind art that you will take home to proudly display!

4. Predators and Prey

Are you interested in learning about animals in the wild? Then this is the class for you! We will be studying the differences and similarities of predators and prey--how they hunt, how they defend themselves, how they use camouflage, and so much more!

5. Master Chef

Let’s cook up some fun while learning the importance of measurement, timing and ingredients. Follow recipes and learn chef secrets from a pro! Don’t forget to wear an apron. You’ll start your own recipe collection, sure to wow your family or any company you are entertaining, in this delicious class!

6. Dessert Decorating

Are you always asking to help in the kitchen? Make our classroom your kitchen and decorate away! Explore your expertise at decorating COOKIES and CUPCAKES, while learning some inventive, yummy ways to create edible designs! Things may get messy, so come prepared with appropriate clothing!

7. Lego Robotics

Do you like to build things? Here you will have the opportunity to imagine, build, and program robots using Lego WeDo Kits! Robots are used in your everyday life…and now you have the power to create your own and see how they work! This adventure will have you exploring the fascinating world of robotics!

8. Health and Fitness Warriors

Do you have lots of energy and love being active? Our Health and Fitness Warriors class is designed to make exercise fun and engaging through a variety of activities, including games, obstacle courses and yoga! In addition to physical fitness, this class also focuses on overall wellness. Students need to wear tennis shoes and athletic wear for this class.

9. 3D Pen Polymers

Do you want to make your own 3D object? Learn how polymers can be used in a 3D pen. Get hands on experience with creating your own 3D structures and how your design can be utilized in the real world! 

10. Microscopic Medium

Have you ever used a digital microscope? Participants in this class will use digital microscopes and create different works of art to better understand how our eyes perceive artwork. Discover what kind of art mediums are best on different materials and why people use certain types of art media to express themselves.

I acknowledge that my child's participation in Kids College is voluntary and Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana (“Ivy Tech”) is not responsible for damages or theft to my property while participating in this activity. I further understand that I do hereby fully and irrevocably release, waive and discharge Ivy Tech, its trustees, officers, employees, volunteers, agents and assigns from any and all claims for injuries, including death, to myself or other persons and from any and all claims for damages to my or other persons’ property, arising out of or in any way relating to my participation in said Activity. It is acknowledged and understood that I am responsible for the cost of any and all medical and health services I may require as a result of such participation. It is also acknowledged and understood that Ivy Tech disclaims any responsibility for students and others who travel to said Activity in vehicles not owned, leased, hired, rented or borrowed vehicles by Ivy Tech, and I hereby assume all risks associated with driving myself and/or others, or being driven by others, to or from said Activity. Further, I hereby agree to indemnify and at Ivy Tech’s request, defend and save harmless, Ivy Tech, its trustees, officers, employees, volunteers, agents and assigns from and against any loss, damages, costs, claims or expenses arising from any actual or claimed death or injury to any person or actual or claimed damage to property, whether owned by me, Ivy Tech, or third parties, including loss of use, that actually or allegedly results from my conduct, by act or omission, relating to my participation in said Event.

In connection with my participation, I grant permission to Ivy Tech and its agents and employees the irrevocable and unrestricted right to reproduce the photographs and/or video images and/or interviews taken of me for the purpose of publication, promotion, illustration, advertising, or trade, in any manner or in any medium. I hereby release Ivy Tech and its legal representatives for all claims and liability relating to said images and/or interviews. I will make no monetary or other claim against Ivy Tech for the use of the photograph(s)/video and/or interviews.
