Ashley workshop salvaged word poetry

Heidelberg Project & Salvaged Word Poetry with Ashley Clemons

Wednesday, April 17, 2019
06:00 PM - 09:00 PM
The Repurpose Project
1920 NE 23rd Ave, Gainesville, FL 32609, USA

When Tyree Guyton redeveloped trash from the streets of Detroit, Michigan and mixed in some art, poetic expressions, and socially consciousness images...the Heidelberg Project was born. Come learn more about this revolutionary art environment. Unwind, express your artistic spirit, and collaborate with others to create poetry from salvaged words and letters found from recycled newspapers, magazines, bumper stickers, and other local written art. And of course...there will be Motown music!

Ashley is a Detroit-native, writer, and teacher. A graduate of Wayne State University, Ashley is currently a 3rd-year English PhD student at the University of Florida. Her research interests include Detroit literature, 20th Century African American literature, critical race & queer theory, social realism, and migration narratives.
