Winchester Science Centre & Planetarium

Winchester Science Centre & Planetarium, Telegraph Way, Winchester, UK

Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) is in the top 10 of global public health threats. This event has been organised to maximise awareness regarding the impact of AMR and learn about what is being done to counter its threat.

Winchester Rotarian Professor Kordo Saeed is a consultant clinical microbiologist at University Hospitals Southampton NHS Foundation Trust & Honorary Professor at the University of Southampton. His interests are infections in intensive care. He is the chair of the Rapid Diagnostics and Biomarker Working Group of the International Society of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (ISAC).

Dr Danny Chambers is the Liberal Democrat MP for Winchester and a veterinary surgeon. He holds a Master of Science in Epidemiology and Infectious Disease Control. Danny has drawn on his expertise to bring attention to antimicrobial resistance, or AMR, and serves as secretary of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on AMR.

Proceeds from this event will go to support End Polio Now - a global campaign led by Rotary International and partners to eradicate polio, having reduced cases by 99.9% since 1988. With only two countries (Pakistan and Afghanistan) remaining endemic, continued vaccination efforts are essential to protect 400 million children annually and prevent a potential surge of 200,000 new cases yearly.
