COVID 19 has widened the wealth gap between Black, Indigenous, other people of color and those who identify as white. How can this disparity be resolved? The steps we can all take to lessen and eliminate this gap must be addressed not only during a pandemic but always. Come share and discuss. Support one another and learn strategies to engage in this imperative work.

10AM Land Acknowledgment & Ground Rules

1015AM History of Poverty cateorgized by groups and intersectionality and the systemic oppression which sustains the disparities between marginalized group members and white people, particularly those who are considered cisgender males.

1115AM Open discussion about solutions, (including, but not limited to, creating safe spaces and inclusive hiring practices) and our part in contributing to this system.

Val Day-Sanchez (pronouns include, she/they) is a professor of communication, social activist, author, TEDX speaker, and intersectional feminist. Dedicated to education, she believes it has the power to combat social justice issues that plague our society. Val is the host of So, What Are You??? a podcast dedicated to amplifying voices that are often marginalized. Val facilitates Equity & Justice Workshops across the country, to help professionals, and organizations, embrace inclusive practices. This inclusive lens is reflected in their cultural responsive teaching, equity based curriculum design, and college service within Equity centered policy change.
