This is a perfect field trip for movie and music fans, young musicians, and students interested in composing movie scores. Prepare for an unforgettable night of movie magic as the Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra brings to life the legendary music of John Williams, one of the most influential and beloved composers of all time.

From the galactic adventure of Star Wars to the wonder and imagination of Harry Potter and the soaring majesty of Superman, this concert features the iconic themes that have defined generations of filmgoers. Feel the suspense rise with Jaws, the awe of discovery in Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and the heroic sweep of Raiders of the Lost Ark. Lush, emotional moments from Schindler’s List and The Patriot stand alongside exhilarating favorites like Jurassic Park, “Flight to Neverland” from Hook, and the triumphant “Call of the Champions.”

Packed with heart-pounding action, sweeping melodies, and unforgettable themes, Epic Scores: The Music of John Williams is a celebration of cinema’s greatest moments, experienced the way they were meant to be heard: live, powerful, and larger than life.

Heartland events are designed for families to attend together. Students need to be accompanied by an adult chaperone. If your student will be attending with another family, please let the field trip host know. Chaperones must be the legal parent or 25 years and older. All chaperones must be healthy, ethical people with the skills to be responsible adult chaperones.

**To ensure the health and safety of all attendees, please do not attend a field trip or event if you, your student(s), or anyone in your household is ill or showing possible signs of illness.**

Please read our refund policy!

Refunds will not be given for any reason. Help us offer field trips and events to as many students as possible by placing orders only for those you are committed to attending. As a courtesy, if you are sick or unable to attend a field trip, please get in touch with the teacher who planned the event and let them know so they do not have to wait at the venue for you. * Families who are no-shows may lose access to future field trips.*

May I pay using my student's planning amount? Yes! You can pay for one chaperone ticket with your student's planning amount. Reminder: Only one chaperone ticket per family may be purchased using planning amounts. There are two steps to purchase field trip tickets with your student's planning amount.

Step 1. Reserve your ticket on Ticketbud. Please select the "Chaperone ticket paid with planning amounts through Procurify" ticket option on Ticketbud. Complete the checkout process on Ticketbud. You will receive an email confirmation from Ticketbud once your order is complete. (If you do not receive an email, please check your Spam folder.) This is the first step in reserving your tickets. Immediately after you receive confirmation from Ticketbud, proceed to step 2.

Step 2. Place an order for your tickets in Procurify. Search the name of this field trip in the Procurify catalog and complete your order just like you would for any other order. Your spot on this field trip will not be confirmed until you have placed your order in Procurify. Failure to place an order in Procurify within three days will result in removal from the attendee list and manual deduction of your funds.

What are the check-in procedures? Families will arrive at 4:45 PM to allow time for parking and walking to the designated meeting location (by the water fountain). Everyone should be gathered and ready to enter the theatre by 5:15 PM. I will be holding a sign that says “Heartland” so families can easily find me and walk in together. A Bakersfield Symphony volunteer will meet our group at 5:15 PM and escort everyone through the designated BSO NEXT entrance and the metal detectors to attend the pre-concert learning presentation.

Does this trip have any grade or age restrictions? This field trip is geared toward students in 4th grade and older; however, younger siblings may attend as long as they are at least 4 years old and able to sit quietly for the entire concert, which can be up to 2 hours. Doors close once the concert starts, so it is not possible to enter or exit the theatre during the concert, except during the short intermission. Only two chaperones per family. If you reserve a ticket for a child under 4, the child will not be able to attend, and you will not receive a refund.

Is there on-site parking available? Parking is free on nearby streets, or there is a secured parking structure behind the Kern County Administrative Building for $10-$20.

Can we pack snacks or lunch for this event or field trip? No. You may be able to carry a plastic bottle of water in a purse, but sometimes they will ask you to throw it away, so make sure it is disposable.
