SCVAS Field Trip: Mt. Madonna County Park

Saturday June 1st 2019 8:00 am –  12:00 pm

Leader: Steve Tracey, (408) 966-3860

Directions: Take Hwy 152 west from Gilroy up the hill until you reach Pole Line Rd. There will be a small sign for Mt. Madonna park right before you reach Pole Line Rd. After about 3/4 of a mile on Pole Line Rd. you will reach the pay booth. If you don't have a Santa Clara County Annual park pass you must stop here to pay the fee. From here continue on Pole Line Rd. for another 3/4 of a mile or so, until you see a wooden sign on your right showing around 10 different park locations, with the "Henry Miller Site" at the top of the list. Directly after the sign take the right turn and proceed to the end of this short road to the two small parking lots at the end of the road for the Henry Miller Site. If the gate to this turn off is closed, proceed to the next right turn off on Pole Line, which is only 50-100 yards passed the Henry miller site road and has an un-gated parking lot. We'll wait there for the gate to open.

Highlights: We'll bird the trails at the top of Mt. Madonna, looking for breeding birds and any lingering migrants.

Difficulty: Moderately strenuous 2 mile walk.

Notes: Parking fee ($6), prepare for cooler weather as conditions can be different on top than in the valley.

For all trips: Beginners welcome. Heavy rain cancels. Carpool if possible. Bring binoculars. No unaccompanied minors.
