Finding Peace: Elevating Community in the Face of Hate

Monday, June 24, 2019, from 6:00 - 7:30 pm at Macalester College’s Weyerhauser Memorial Chapel.

How can we talk about and understand hate and violence in our community and in the world? In what ways does hate lead to violence? How does hate appear in our communities and networks?

Heartland Democracy welcomes Norwegian activist and academic Bjorn Ihler to Minnesota, to help us launch a new conversation and action agenda around recognizing and combatting hate and violence.

Bjorn brings a unique perspective on how people across the globe are working together to counter hate and build peace. He is influenced by his experiences since surviving a terror attack on students in Norway in July 2011, an attack perpetrated by a Norwegian white nationalist.

He now works at the Oslo Freedom Forum and is a Young Leader on the Extremely Together Project at the Kofi Annan Foundation, where he works to combat violent extremism all over the world.

Parking can be found on Macalester Street, Grand Avenue and Lincoln Avenue.

Check-in begins at 5:30pm. VIP reception will be held at Weyerhaeuser Hall, 62 Macalester St., St. Paul 55105, beginning at 5:00pm.

Heartland Democracy builds education and engagement programs to strengthen our communities and challenge all of us to question, learn, and act.
