Interculturality
(based on a Central States Extension Workshop)
Traditionally, culture has been relegated to textbook footnotes and trivia-style fun facts, when it should be at the forefront of everything we do! Learn how to weave culture so that it fits seamlessly in your everyday lessons as we dive into the intercultural standards and can-do statements. Participants will acquire practical strategies to use in their classroom. They will learn what interculturality really means, including how to incorporate themes of social justice.
Presenters: Ellen Ericson & Dr. Kathryn Wolfkiel
Social Justice
Culture cannot and should not be separated from language, thus as foreign language teachers we must remember to include authentic material which addresses the Social Justice issues associated with culture, while allowing us to teach in a Culturally Relevant manner. Teaching a foreign language lends itself to directly bring social justice issues into the classroom. We need to learn from, listen to and respect our students' stories and allow time for them to share their stories.
Presenter: Dr. Michael Ayala
One must be an ICTFL member to attend. Membership year is July 1-June 30. To qualify for student/retiree status, one must not hold a paid teaching position.
Cancellations. If you must cancel, notify ictfl.confcoordinator@gmail.com at least 7 days before the workshop for a full workshop refund minus a $5.00 processing fee. If ICTFL must cancel for any reason, you will be issued a full workshop refund.
