Since its inception in 1999, the Alpha King Challenge has celebrated the boldest expressions of hop-forward beer. Founded by Yakima Chief Hops and 3 Floyds Brewing, the competition takes its name from 3 Floyds’ iconic Alpha King American Pale Ale, with past winners including some of the biggest names in craft beer. While all hoppy styles are welcome, the Alpha King Challenge awards beers that strike the perfect balance between intense hop character and irresistible drinkability.
There are only five rules:
- Beer entries must be 60 IBUs or greater.
- Commercial beer only. All beer must be brewed and available for purchase through a commercial brewery.
- Only one entry per brewery business (not brewery location).
- No Barleywines.
- No collaboration brews! Entry must be from a single brewery.
The competition is limited to 165 entries. Registration spots will be reserved for past winners. Historically, spaces fill up quickly, so brewers are encouraged to plan on submitting their registration as soon as it is open. Currently, Alpha King Challenge is only open to U.S. breweries.
The last day we will receive beer is September 25th.
Beer Shipment Details:
Shipments will be accepted 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. from September 21st to September 25th.
Please note that we will not accept deliveries on Saturdays or Sundays.
Bottles or cans: 6 x 12 oz., 4 x 16 oz., or 3 x 22 oz. (no growlers or crowlers)
Include a copy of your registration confirmation EMAIL in your shipment that includes your brewery and beer name.
Late entries will be disqualified.
