SCVAS Field Trip: Coyote Ridge Open Space Preserve

Directions: From Hwy 101, take the Bailey Ave. exit and head east. Continue on Malech Rd. for less than half mile, entrance will be on the right. Note: Searching on Google Maps will take you to a different entrance.

Highlights: Explore a preserve normally not open to the public with OSA staff and docents, where endangered and threatened plants and animals thrive on serpentine soils. Horned Larks, Western Meadowlarks, Golden Eagles, and other raptors flying overhead, and possibly Burrowing Owl.

Difficulty: We will caravan to the top of Coyote Ridge for a 3-4 mile walk along the ridge, including a difficult steep descent for ~1.5 miles. Trail surface is uneven and may be muddy after rains. Hiking poles recommended, and will be provided!

Notes: Limit 15 participants. Porta potty available, no water. Heavy rains in days prior will cancel, or meeting location will be changed. Please provide contact info upon registering so that we may notify you of any changes. Heavy rain cancels, kids ages 14+ are welcome (no unaccompanied minors.)

For all trips: Beginners welcome. Heavy rain cancels. Carpool if possible. Bring binoculars. No unaccompanied minors.
