A portrayal of his own personal relationships and influence on many artistic masterpieces to modern day, Gaius Valerius Catullus’ expressions of love and hatred are considered among the finest lyric poetry of ancient Rome. The powerful musical works Catulli Carmina (Songs of Catullus) by Carl Orff and I Hate and I Love by Dominick Argento, alongside music by Gallus, Dowland, Bennett, Farmer, and more, will be presented. Soloists, percussion and lute will be featured. A 7 p.m. pre-concert lecture will be given by Benjamin Stevens, Ph.D., Trinity Classics Dept.
