Despite Everything, and Because Everything Is at Stake:

Facing Our Crises with the Help of Thomas Merton and Dorothy Day

Author Julie Leininger Pycior leads this special workshop, presented by the Chicago Chapter of the International Thomas Merton Society and Contemplative Outreach Chicago.

September 24, 2020 marks the fifth anniversary of Pope Francis showcasing Thomas Merton and Dorothy Day to Congress, even as Merton and Day have special significance in our current perilous moment. The timeliness of their call for social justice witness informed by contemplative practice is revealed in findings from Julie’s new book, Dorothy Day, Thomas Merton, and the Greatest Commandment: Radical Love in Times of Crisis, which actually was instrumental in Pope Francis spotlighting this inspiring pair, and which features a foreword by Rowan Williams and endorsements by, among others, Merton scholar Christine Bochen, Pope Francis biographer Austen Ivereigh, bestselling author James Martin, SJ, and Bill Moyers.
