Brooklyn FAM Wish Catcher: A Free Storytelling, Art-Making Event
Saturday, December 03, 2022
03:00 PM - 04:30 PM
Brownsville Library
61 Glenmore Avenue, Brooklyn, NY, USA
Join us at Brownsville Library for a magical afternoon featuring stories about Kwanzaa values, growth, and healing with professional storyteller Thelma Ruffin Thomas, author and Power in the Pen
Director Cathie Wright-Lewis, and Brownsville Heritage House Executive Director Miriam Robertson.
We will also share our own stories through conversation over music, refreshments, and a storytelling craft that could serve as a beautiful ornament or table centerpiece at home.
This free event celebrates the Library installation of the Brooklyn FAM Wish Catcher. Centered on the question "How do we bring community alive?", the Wish Catcher is a community art project that began its journey in Brownsville on June 24 at the Brownsville Community Justice Center’s open streets festival (B)Live on Belmont. Individuals of all generations participated in the project by attaching strands of fabric and words reflecting their heartfelt wishes for the community.
Brooklyn neighbors continued to build the piece at the One Crown Heights Festival in August and at Brooklyn FAM’s free 2nd annual festival in Prospect Park in October.
Thank you, Brownsville Library, for your partnership in hosting the Wish Catcher and this event.
Bring friends, family, and neighbors for a cozy afternoon to kick off the holidays!
