What is a chapter book? How is it different from a picture book or a novel for older readers? How do you write for a series? Debbi Michiko Florence, author of the acclaimed chapter book series Jasmine Toguchi and My Furry Foster Family series will share details about the journey to publication for Jasmine Toguchi and an overview of what you need to know to start writing your own chapter books. Debbi will share a list of mentor texts and answer questions.

About Debbi Michiko Florence:

Debbi Michiko Florence is the author of the middle grade novel Keep It Together, Keiko Carter (Scholastic/2020), the upcoming companion novel Just Be Cool, Jenna Sakai (Scholastic/August 2021), the Jasmine Toguchi chapter book series (Farrar Straus Giroux), and other books for children. Debbi has spoken on panels at conferences and book festivals, taught writing workshops for children and adults, and loves doing author visits at schools and libraries. She is on the faculty of The Highlights Foundation. Debbi has been a raptor rehabilitator, outdoor educator, classroom teacher, and a zoo educator. A third-generation Japanese American, born and raised in California, Debbi now lives in Connecticut with her husband, rescue dog, bunny, and duck. She loves to travel with her husband and daughter.
