SLOW SERENITY - AN AFTERNOON OF SOMATIC EXPERIENCING & RESTORATIVE YOGA
'Remember that time and space are the greatest healers. Allow for the open-ended time and unconfined space to work on you. Slow down your sense of time so that space can roam through you' Tias Little
Somatic experiencing is a form of embodied mindfulness that enriches present moment awareness and promotes physiological & psychological healing.
It is often used as a way to access interoception and proprioception (as core elements of trauma therapy) as attention is guided towards interoceptive, kinaesthetic, and proprioceptive experience.
This mindful way of relating to the felt experience of being in our bodies allows us to re-connect to our subtle life-force and to replenish our deepest reservoirs of energy.
There are no yoga 'poses' and no fixed positions. Soft, slow movement takes place as we rest on the ground and is punctuated by spontaneous moments of stillness. Tension gently unravels as we breath quietly & bare witness to sensation.
In this way, we recover a sense of sweetness and ease in our physical experience and an often a 'longed for' relief from over-exertion arises.
As we move into a sense of self-regulation, the REST AND REPAIR systems of the body come back online and the body can heal itself, free from external imposition.
Once the nervous system has begun to reset, we then spend the second half of the workshop resting deeply for sustained periods of time in comfortable, warm & well-supported Restorative Yoga Poses.
The effects are far-reaching because as we allow stress and fatigue to leave our system, our outlook shifts to a more positive view, brain function improves and we can recover our connection with ourselves, the world and others.
A potent tonic for our time!
