Festival of Ideas is a colloquium at which content experts and secondary students lead diverse and vibrant conversations of intellectual curiosity and brilliance. Speakers from a variety of disciplines, including mathematics, literature, philosophy, science, art, music, and history aim to give participants a taste of what true leisure feels like: a gateway to the good life—a life in pursuit of beauty, truth, goodness, and perfection. These presentations are intended to inspire great conversations filled with wonder, passion, and discovery.

Meet Our Keynote Speaker
Groundbreaking Keynote Address Featuring Dr. Anika Prather
Founder of the Living Water School/Lecturer at Howard University/Newly appointed as Director, High Quality Curriculum and Instruction in the Department of Education Policy at Johns Hopkins University
Dr. Anika Prather’s research focus is on building literacy with African American students through engagement in the books of the Canon and with her book Living in the Constellation of the Canon: The Lived Experiences of African American Students Reading Great Books Literature recently. She has served as a teacher, supervisor for student teachers, director of education, and Head of School. She is also a performing artist and incorporates music, drama, and storytelling into most of her presentations.
Dr. Prather’s keynote address is titled Classics for ALL. Prather states, “I will share my journey into classical education and how I discovered a classical tradition in the Black community and many other diverse populations. I will also share practical tips for making classical learning accessible to diverse students.”
