Christmas Bird Count for Kids with Santa Clara Valley Audubon Society

Ed R. Levin County Park

Sunday December 16th 2018 9:00 am –  1:00 pm

**NOTE: Only the person registering the group needs to fill out the registration questions.

Christmas Bird Count is an annual Audubon tradition spanning over a century. This year we would like to get families involved in our Santa Clara County count and invite you to attend Christmas Bird Count for Kids in San Jose on Sunday, December 16, 2018. Below is a look at how the day will go. Please note that this is separate from the adult San Jose Christmas Bird Count taking place on the same day.

  • At 9:00AM we will start the day with check in and dividing up into teams, then we'll have "binocular bootcamp" to go over binocular basics. If you have your pair, bring them! If not, we would be happy to loan you a pair. Please indicate how many pairs your group will need upon registering.
  • Once we are all confident in using binoculars and birding etiquette, teams will embark on birding walks under the direction of SCVAS docents. Wear comfortable walking shoes and warm layers for this short and easy bird walk.
  • After the birding walks, we will come back together to talk about our findings and tally our results. This data will be logged into eBird to contribute to citizen science. The eBird list will also be shared with participants after the event.
  • We will finish the day with a celebratory picnic, so bring a sack lunch! Activities and clean up should wrap up by 1:00PM.

More details and directions for the count will be emailed to participants closer to the event, so please register using an email that can receive attachments. Prior to that, please email Kelsey Frey at programs@scvas.org with any questions.
