'Learn to teach Restorative Yoga - An Art and a Science'

A part experiential, part discursive workshop for those interested in learning to teach Restorative Yoga.

Teaching Restorative Yoga is an art & a science that goes beyond simply including postures into your repertoire.

Pose differentiation (adjustments for individual needs) science-based physiological & environmental considerations, appropriate artistic & creative license, reflective practice and trauma awareness are just some of the many facets of Teaching this style of Yoga.

What is Restorative Yoga?

RESTORATIVE YOGA IS A GENTLE, PASSIVE AND DEEPLY THERAPEUTIC EXPERIENCE FOR ANYONE AND EVERYONE, PROVIDING DEEP REST FOR TIRED BODIES, RELAXATION FOR BUSY MINDS AND REJUVENATION FOR THE ENTIRE NERVOUS SYSTEM. DIFFERENT FROM MORE ACTIVE STYLES OF YOGA, IN A RESTORATIVE SESSION, WE SIMPLY PLACE THE BODY STRATEGICALLY IN SPECIFIC & RESTFUL POSITIONS WHICH ARE SUPPORTED BY PROPS. COMBINED WITH GUIDED BREATHING EXERCISES, SOMATIC EXPERIENCING, RELAXATION TECHNIQUES & YOGA NIDRA, PLUS SKILFULLY CHOSEN BACKGROUND MUSIC (OR PEACE AND QUIET), PARTICIPANTS EXPERIENCE PROFOUND & DEEP RELAXATION. EVERYONE CAN DO THIS TYPE OF YOGA!

During a typical session, we concentrate on relaxing and releasing our weight into the support of the props and softening into the passive stretches. This helps us to relieve the effects of negative stress encountered in daily life, and can be highly beneficial in times of fatigue, illness, and emotional strain. Our focus will be to calm, and nurture ourselves on all levels during the class. The relaxation techniques taught can be used outside of the yoga room as well, encouraging us to take our practice off the mat and into the world. These sessions are for all levels including pregnancy and most injuries.

A Note about 'True, Deep, Conscious Rest': This is the act of choosing to engage with the process of relaxation, rather than collapsing into bed at the end of the day, tired and wired and waking up still exhausted. Making relaxation a conscious choice is truly empowering & life-changing. Nourishing yourself enhances a positive psychological mindset that filters into all areas of your life.
