Expressive Abstraction with Cameron Schmitz: A Paint Night Event

In this fun evening painting workshop, Cameron Schmitz will be teaching participants different approaches to painting abstractly, while focusing on expressive brushwork and creative mark-making techniques. This workshop encourages participants to relax, have fun, and take artistic risks in order to find one's own unique voice. This painting workshop is great for anyone wanting to explore non-representational painting and an intuitive approach to painting abstractly. The workshop provides a supportive environment for painters both beginning and advanced who wish to take creative risks and discover its exciting results. No painting experience necessary.

 

Cameron Schmitz, will be giving demonstrations in oil paints, and providing students who purchase materials, oils. However, students who opt to bring their own supplies, can opt to bring acrylics if they prefer.

$85 for supplies provided ($30 materials fee includes 1 large sheet of Arches oil paper, access to oil paints, painting medium, oil brushes, palette knife, gloves, painting palette, rags and solvent)

$55 for students bringing their own painting materials and supplies

 

When registering for this workshop, please specify in advance if you will be bringing your own supplies. If bringing your own supplies, a suggested materials list will be provided.

Cameron Schmitz is an abstract painter with a background in landscape and figurative painting. Her education includes a Master’s of Fine Arts in Painting from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Bachelors of Fine Arts in Painting & Drawing from the University of New Hampshire, and studies in Art and Art History at Studio Arts Centers International in Florence, Italy.  Schmitz’s work has been featured at Fitchburg Art Museum, Northern Arizona University Art Museum, Green Mountain College, Kyoto Seika University, Emory University, Metro Gallery in Burlington, VT and Brooklyn Expo Center and Rogue Space and in New York, NY. Notable recent press includes her work featured in Fresh Paint Magazine, Professional Artist Magazine and being interviewed in a two-part series on the popular podcast, Savvy Painter.

 

Suggested Materials List

If opting to bring acrylics versus oils, please just bring the equivalent of what is listed below:

1 sheet of 22x30 Arches Oil Paper OR 2 oil painting substrates (Examples: 2 primed canvases no larger than 16x20, Frederix canvas pad, primed wood panels, etc.)

3 Primary Oil Colors Plus White.

Cotton rags or Roll of Paper Towels

Oil painting medium of your choice (i.e. Mixture of 3 parts Gamsol+ 1 part Refined Linseed, or linquin, or Neo-Megilp, etc.)

Small Jar or cup to holding painting medium (Salsa jars are a good size)

Small Jar of Gamsol for cleaning brushes (Tomato Sauce or large mason jars are a good size)

3-5 paint brushes in a range of sizes

Small to medium size Palette Painting Knife

Disposable or Portable Palette

Painter's Tape (if painting on arches oil paper or Frederix canvas pad)

Drawing Board (if painting on arches oil paper or Frederix canvas pad)
