After beginning in separate households these two collections combined fluidly when Klari Reis, a former Hang Art employee and artist, and Michael Isard, a computer scientist and researcher, married in 2012. Over the last five years, they have converted a SOMA 1920s auto-mechanic garage into their home and personal museum. The current configuration of the space pays tribute to the building’s original function through architectural vignettes, such as the use of a European Fiat for an entrance chandelier. Spacious loft ceilings and expansive walls provide ample room for their collection. View works by Hang Art affiliates and alumni Carolyn Meyer, Catherine Mackey, Jylian Gustlin, DAVe Warnke, Michael Shankman, Lea Feinstein, Siddharth Parasnis and David Lippenberger as well as British artists Julian Opie, Bridget Riley, Patrick Caulfield and David Shrigley.
