Event Description

WORKSHOP INFORMATION

Join the entire Growing in Grace Creative Team in Music City for two days of exciting sessions exploring topics specific to children's music ministry with tools and tips every leader should know. Unpack the abundant materials included in our newest curriculum theme, "Fruit of the Spirit," and enjoy a first look at the all-new resources coming from Growing in Grace! As an added bonus, guest clinician Artie Almeida will lead large-group sessions packed with engaging singing games, musical enrichment activities, and more!

Bring your children's music ministry team for a weekend of learning, fun, and fellowship!

 

REGISTRATION INFORMATION


Early Bird Registration is $119 per person through May 15, 2018.
Regular Workshop Registration is $139 per person through July 19, 2018.

Registration Fees include Friday dinner, Saturday lunch, and snack breaks throughout the event.

Participants are responsible for their own hotel arrangements.  See the HOTEL INFORMATION section for special rates and additional lodging details.

BREAKOUT SESSION I

This Is Your Brain and Faith on Music - Room 3317
Musical experiences make a lifelong impact on the musical and spiritual lives of children.  We will review the wonderful ways God made our brains to respond to music and gain practical ways we can help children become lifelong worshippers.

Anthem Reading Session - Room 3315
Explore exciting new titles from the 2018 Growing in Grace Anthem Series for elementary-age voices.  We will highlight songs for general use as well as anthems for special days.

Let's Coordinate - Room 3321
Children's choir coordinators will unpack the Fruit of the Spirit theme materials, overview Step by Step:  Tools, Tips, & Templates, and share ideas for planning a dynamic choir year.


BREAKOUT SESSION II

Fruit of the Spirit (Older Children) - Room 3317
The upcoming theme, Fruit of the Spirit, is packed with materials to guide the spiritual development and character of children.  Be ready to move, sing, and play using fun, engaging songs and activities for Grades 4-6.  We will look ahead at Christmas music and materials to help you plan the fall semester.

The upcoming theme, Fruit of the Spirit, is packed with materials to guide the spiritual development and character of children.  Be ready to move, sing, and play using fun, engaging songs and activities for Grades 1-3.  We will look ahead at Christmas music and materials to help you plan the fall semester.

The upcoming theme, Fruit of the Spirit, is packed with materials to guide the spiritual development and character of children.  Be ready to move, sing, and play using fun, engaging songs and activities for Ages 3-5.  We will look ahead at Christmas music and materials to help you plan the fall semester.

Let All the Children Sing! - Room 3315
Do you work with a combined elementary age choir (Grades 1-6)?  Discover fresh ways to teach exciting songs of faith for the entire church year.


LARGE GROUP SESSION I

Music and Movement and Mixers, Oh My! - Room 3309
Let's hear it for real "social networking," where children hold hands, sing, dance, and laugh with friends!  participants will utilize singing games and fun props to bring great pieces of music to life for their children.  There will be lots of learning and lots of fun, while focusing on the elements of steady beat, melody, and form.


LARGE GROUP SESSION II

Concept Collage - Room 3309
Your young singers will love these joyful lessons that illuminate various musical concepts, including beat, rhythm, melody, tone color, tempo, and dynamics.  Use these songs, children's books, tongue twisters, and rhythm instrument activities to energize and enhance your rehearsals and classes.


BREAKOUT SESSION III

Drums, Buckets, Bells, Boomwhackers, and Bars - Room 3317
Are you ready for hands-on music-making fun with children?  Get ready to make a joyful noise!  These instrumental games and activities are perfect for adding energy and excitement to your choir or music camp.

Make It and Take It - Room 3305/3307
We provide the materials; you supply the creativity!  Make a prop that teaches, then take it to use in your choir at home.  Be sure to bring your Getaway Bag to this class.  You will need to "take" all the things you will "make!"


LARGE GROUP SESSION III

Fun Fillers for Your Choir Rehearsals - Room 3309
Add these super-fun "fillers" to your choir rehearsals and watch the children's faces light up!  These innovative and engaging short lessons will grow students' musicianship while building a strong feeling of teamwork and "family."  The children will be counting the days until their next rehearsal!

TERRY TAYLOR

Terry Taylor became Managing Editor of Growing in Grace in January 2013.  In his more than 40 year career, Terry has extensive experience writing children's choir curriculum for LifeWay Christian Resources, composing an array of children's music for Chorister's Guild, and serving as Minister of Music to churches in Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky, Georgia, and Oklahoma.  Currently, he serves as the bi-vocational Minister of Music at Tusculum Hills Baptist Church in Nashville, Tennessee, in addition to his role at Growing in Grace. JAMES BARNARD

James Barnard joined our team in 2016 as Music Editor and brings a wide skill set to Growing in Grace.  For eight years, James was Church Choral Editor for Shawnee Press, a division of Hal Leonard Corporation, managing and producing choral and keyboard publications.  James has served as Minister of Music for churches in Georgia, Tennessee, and Wisconsin, and currently serves at Community Baptist Church in Spring Hill, Tennessee.  Read more about James...




PAULA FARRAR

Design Editor for Growing in Grace, Paula Farrar joined our team in August 2013, and brings more than 35 years experience in Preschool and Children's Music to the position.  Prior to coming to Growing in Grace, Paula was a literary and music editor for Preschool and Children's Music curriculum products during her 25-year tenure at LifeWay Christian Resources.  Read more about Paula...


CAROL DICKERSON

Carol Dickerson is the Preschool and Younger Children Design Editor at Growing in Grace, a position she began in Fall 2014.  Prior to joining the Growing in Grace team, Carol served as the Junior Kindergarten through Second Grade Music Teacher at St. Paul Christian Academy in Nashville, Tennessee, and as the Music Director at the Woodmont Baptist Weekday Preschool.  Read more about Carol...




ARTIE ALMEIDA, GUEST CLINICIAN

Dr. Artie Almeida retired after 37 years as the music specialist at Bear Lake Elementary School in Apopka, Florida.  Artie was chosen as Florida Music Educator of the Year and was also selected as an International Educator in 2006 by the Cambridge England Biographical Society.  Artie is the author of 36 internationally acclaimed teaching resources, including KidSTix, Mallet Madness, and Parachutes, Ribbons and Scarves, Oh My!  Artie is an adjunct professor at The University of Central Florida, teaches applied saxophone lessons, and performs on historical winds with two renaissance ensembles.


FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is there an Early Bird Registration rate?
Yes!  $119 per person through May 15, 2018.  After May 15, 2018 the rate is $139 per person.

What is the last day to register?
The last day to register is July 19, 2018.

Who can attend the workshop?
Anyone can attend the workshop!  Whether you are a coordinator, teacher, or volunteer, you will find fun and informative sessions that apply to your position.

What meals are included in the registration price?
Friday dinner and Saturday lunch are included in the registration price, as well as snack breaks throughout the event.  

If you have questions or concerns about the menu, please contact the Event Coordinator.  Please keep in mind that meals are served by the church's food service, and as they are not full-time caterers, they will do their best to accommodate special needs, but it is always best to come prepared, especially in the case of a food allergy.

I'm from out of town.  Where can I stay?
Please see the HOTEL INFORMATION section above for hotels and rates.

What do I need to bring with me to check-in to the event?
You need only bring yourself and your enthusiasm to learn and have fun!

What is the refund policy?
Full refunds will be issued through July 6, 2018.  After July 6, 2018, no refunds will be issued due to catering orders.

The name on the registration doesn't match the attendee.  Is that okay?
If you need to change a name or registration information, please contact the Event Coordinator.  We use registration information for all personalized items, including name tags, so please make sure your information is correct before registration closes on July 19, 2018.

Can I register my entire team, or do they need to register separately?
When you begin your registration, select the number of tickets you would like to purchase, which will allow you to register a group of people.  Individual registration is also permitted.

Can I pay for my registration by check?
Check payment is permitted, but registration with check payment must be done by the Event Coordinator, Tiffany Hitchcock, by calling 877-550-7707 x 7021.  If you are registering a group, please provide a list of attendees when registering. 

Are handicapped accommodations available at the church?
The church is accessible via ramps and elevators.  Handicapped restrooms are also available.

Will child care be available during the workshop?
Child care will not be available.  Please make arrangements for your children outside of the workshop.

Can I purchase my Growing in Grace curriculum at the workshop?
We will have the "Fruit of the Spirit" curriculum available for purchase, as well as past curriculum to supplement your library.  

Do I need to bring my curriculum or any other materials to participate in the workshop?
All materials needed for workshop sessions will be provided for you. If you have not purchased your curriculum prior to the event, you can purchase curriculum CDs while at the workshop.
