Event Description

October 14th, 2017: Tomatoes, Staking and Frost Protection Workshop*

Who doesn't want to grow tomatoes that taste like REAL tomatoes instead of cardboard? This important "How To Garden" Workshop begins with an in depth look at growing tomatoes. Topics will include the best heirloom and hybrid varieties for our area; pruning and suckering; staking and more. Tip of the day: Florida gardeners should NEVER buy those silly tomato cages unless you want to turn them upside and decorate them as "trees" for the Christmas holidays! In conjunction with our tomato talk, we'll also teach you various styles of staking, not only your tomatoes, but beans, cucumbers and other plants that may need support during the growing season. We'll wrap up the workshop by sharing how to protect your vegetable and herb plants if we were to have frost warnings during the winter.  This workshop is for beginner home gardeners, or experienced gardeners who want a refresher course. All of the information shared is geared towards organic food gardening. This is an adult workshop. No supplies are needed.  Online registration is required at least 24 hours PRIOR to the workshop. The fee for this workshop is $15 per person plus $1.73 ticket service fee. *MWL
