Our panelists will discuss various techniques and elements that can be used to manipulate and focus the narrative voice within your novel and offer suggestions to implement these tools across different Point of View types. We’ll also talk about the benefits and drawbacks of using various narrative approaches.

Jade Benjamin is a Canadian writer and editor who is fiercely in love with language, words, and magical worlds. She works as a freelance editor, fitting work for independent author clients around her 9-5 expenses-paying job. She also works on the acquisitions team for Renaissance Press.

Evelyn Freeling is an author and editor of dark speculative fiction. Her work has been published by Shortwave, Flame Tree Press, Cosmic Horror Monthly, NoSleep podcast, and more. She's an Editor-in-Chief of Hedone Books and an Acquiring Editor at Dark Lit Press. She also edited the erotic horror anthology, Les Petites Morts, with Ghost Orchid Press.

K. J. Harrowick is a fantasy and science fiction author with a strong passion for twisted stories blending grimdark worlds and futurist technology. She's the owner and CEO of I Know Why She Stayed, a repeat panelist for the WriteHive Annual Convention and the Weeknight Writers Convention, and she's appeared twice on the game show Wordcrash!

With an unhealthy obsession for dragons, tacos, cheese, and beer, K. J. also works as a freelance web developer and graphic designer on a broad range of client projects. Her co-authored memoir I KNOW WHY SHE STAYED, which consists of a serious lack of dragons, will hit bookshelves July 2024.

Nicole M. Wolverton is a fear enthusiast who grew up in the rural hinterlands of northeast Pennsylvania, wondering what lurked in the cornfields outside her bedroom window. Today, Nicole is a Pushcart-nominated writer of (mostly) speculative and horror fiction for adults and young adults. She is the author of A MISFORTUNE OF LAKE MONSTERS, a young adult speculative novel due out on July 2, 2024, and THE TRAJECTORY OF DREAMS, a 2013 adult psychological thriller.

She was Editor of the 2021 anthology of short fiction BODIES FULL OF BURNING, exploring horror through the lens of menopause—the first of its kind. Her short fiction, creative nonfiction, and essays have appeared in over forty anthologies, magazines, and podcasts. She lives in the Philadelphia area and still wonders what creeps in the dark.

Steve Westenra is a trans author of fantasy, science fiction, and horror (basically, if it’s weird he writes it).

He grew up on the eldritch shores of Newfoundland, Canada, and currently lives and works in (the slightly less eldritch) Montreal. He holds advanced degrees in Russian Literature, Medieval Studies, and Religious Studies. His current academic work focuses on marginalized reclamations of monstrous figures. He teaches the History of Satan and Religion and its Monsters.

Both his queer horror comedy (The Erstwhile Tyler Kyle) and his political epic fantasy (The Wings of Ashtaroth) are Indieverse award finalists. The Wings of Ashtaroth is also a finalist in the Indie Ink Awards.
