SLO Water Resource Recovery Facility Tour

Join this behind-the-scenes tour of a modernized wastewater treatment plant that uses a multi-stage treatment process to deliver high-quality water for future use. We will learn about collection, screening, settling and separation, biological treatment, bioreactors, and more. This tour highlights the science and engineering of water treatment. Please note, that this tour is 1.5 hours of standing, walking, and looking, and students need to stay with the group at all times as the site is an active construction zone.

Everyone attending must wear closed-toed shoes as there is ongoing construction at the facility. Additionally, participants will be required to wear hard hats and vests during the tour.

Heartland events are designed for families to attend together. Students need to be accompanied by an adult chaperone. If your student will be attending with another family, please indicate this when you register your student and let the field trip host know once you complete your registration.

May I pay using my funds? This event is FREE!

What are the check-in procedures? Please meet me outside of the treatment plant's office at 10:50 to check-in. I will be wearing a Heartland shirt and carrying a clipboard.

Does this trip have any height, weight, and/or age restrictions? This field trip is aimed at students in 1st- 8th grade; however, all ages are welcome. Each person who attends a field trip or event must be registered through Ticketbud.

Is there on-site parking available? Ample parking is available in the facility parking lot or on nearby streets.

Can we pack snacks or lunch for this event or field trip? No.
