A Native Garden in Development

Come see the native garden being created by Wild Ones President, Amanda “Nan” Wray, which is in the early stages of what she hopes to accomplish on her 2.5 acre lot.

So far she has planted more than 50 trees, and there are several mature native trees present, including sycamore, wild cherry, tulip tree, box elder, black walnut, butternut, hickory, beech and others.

She has a stream (Roland Run) going through the property, and both blue herons and the yellow-crowned night heron have been spotted fishing there. She also has fox, deer, and a number of raptors that hunt rabbit and squirrel.

There are a mix of herbaceous plants blooming in her parking area garden bed and near her entry. Following a tour of this area, she will take visitors to her lower garden near the stream, which is very wild at the moment, but lush and cool. She will talk about her plants for refining this area, which has a resident groundhog and an abundance of jewelweed and a pollinator garden area.

She still has plenty of invasives to clear and turfgrass to remove, and will share what has worked so far, and what is being planned to combat what remains.

Event address at a private residence will be provided to registrants closer to the event date.
