July concert showcases the following programs:
2pm, Chris Nankervis in Recital
3.30pm, Highs & Lows (Alison Fan & Kit Millais)
About the Artists
Chris Nankervis (piano)
Chris is an emerging pianist who enjoys performing a wide range of solo and ensemble repertoire. Raised in rural Victoria, he developed a keen interest in both classical and contemporary music at a young age. Exposure to such composers as Beethoven, Mozart and Grieg by his late grandmother prompted him to pursue a career in music. Chris studied with Ian Holtham, Janine Sowden and Len Vorster at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, where he also studied conducting with John Hopkins and piano pedagogy with Mark McGee.
Chris has collaborated with young composers and worked with Big Bands, drama ensembles, choirs and performance artists. He has given world premieres, including one by USA composer Michael Pisaro for the Melbourne Festival. Committed to new music, he has commissioned a work for solo piano by Luke Hutton, with a new work for cello and piano due to be premiered early next year. An active teacher and accompanist, one of his future endeavours is to create a program that brings world-class music education to remote parts of Australia. His non-musical interests include Aussie-Rules Football and South-East Asian cuisines.
Alison Fan & Kit Millais (Percussion Trombone Duo)
This duo originally was to be a trio and when our pianist realised he was on holiday we decided we would have three become two. Alison and Kit are looking forward to discovering together all the timbral possibilities for this combination of Brass and Percussion and hopefully trying to learn how to play each other instruments along the way.

Alison began percussion at age 14, studying under John Arcaro. Alison is currently in her Honours year at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music. She has been the recipient of numerous scholarships including the Margaret Schofield Memorial Scholarship, the Catherine Grace McWilliam Scholarship, the Kenneth Moore Memorial Scholarship and currently holds the Graff Family Scholarship at the MCM. In 2016, she won both First Place and Audience Choice at the Australian Percussion Gathering Orchestral Accessories Competition. Alison has participated in the Australian Youth Orchestra National Music Camps since 2016 and is currently the Principal Percussionist of the Australian Youth Orchestra.

Kit Millais is a low brass performer and teacher from Melbourne, Australia. He enjoys pursuing all creative opportunities and constantly trying out new performance and teaching concepts.
He is currently involved in many ensembles performing in a wide range of styles of ensembles, varying from New Music to the Baroque and from Jazz Bands to Orchestras. He has recently begun a Masters of Music where he will begin working on performance art and trombone.
