SCVAS Field Trip: Panoche Valley

Directions: Meet at Paicines Store on Hwy 25.
Highlights: Explore oak woodland and open grassland via back roads. Targets: Phainopepla, Mountain Bluebird, Prairie Falcon, Ferruginous Hawk, Golden Eagle; other possibilities: Mountain Plover, Lark, Vesper and Rufous-crowned Sparrows, Greater Roadrunner, Chukar.
Notes: Bring lunch and a full tank of gas; carpooling recommended. We’ll eat at Panoche Inn. To pre-order a sandwich (recommended), send choice of meat (turkey, ham, pastrami, chicken salad, tuna salad), cheese (Swiss, Cheddar, Pepper Jack, Monterey Jack), condiments, and bread (wheat, rye, sourdough) to email@example.com. 12” pizzas and burritos also available; order upon arrival. Restrooms limited throughout trip. Heavy rain in San Benito County cancels.
