Mystical poetry is rooted in deep spiritual experience. Reading and reflecting on this poetry can provide an opportunity for valuable personal insight and meaning - even perhaps, enabling us to notice our daily ordinary experiences in a new light with a sense of oneness and connection to the Divine.
Since mystical poetry is universal in nature our weekly sessions will include poetry from mystics and saints across various faith traditions such as Rumi, Hafiz, St. Francis, and Kabir among others. Our main source of reading will be from the book, Love Poems from God, by Daniel Ladinsky, which contains his renditions of the poems and words attributed to each of these poets/ mystics. Although this book is highly recommended it is not required for the sessions as copies of specific poems will be made available.
The format will consist of reading a selected poem together in a contemplative fashion followed by individual reflection and sharing. In the beginning of each subsequent session, we will provide time for any insights realized from the previous week’s reading as we incorporate those truths into our life experience.
These sessions are for all those who wish to enrich their lives through the reading, listening, questioning, reflection, and personal sharing of these great mystical poems.
Week 1 - Western Mystics
Week 2 - Sufi Mystics
Week 3 - Eastern Mystics
Week 4 - More selected works

Mike is a practicing Spiritual Director, Spiritual Director Supervisor and BioSpiritual Focusing Companion as well as a leader and teacher for the area's Christian Contemplative Community. He is a very experienced Contemplative group facilitator. Mike’s Contemplative Spirituality is enriched by Thomas Merton and other Christian mystics and the mystics of all traditions. His insights in the teachings of Jesus have been particularly enriched by the work he’s done on his own and in groups with the Gospel of Thomas. Mike finds time in nature a way to connect to a greater sense of Oneness.
