SCVAS Field Trip: Calero Creek Trail

Directions: From San Jose, take Almaden Expy southeast until it ends at Harry Rd. Turn right onto Harry, then make the first left onto McKean Rd. Travel 1.3 miles to Fortini Rd. Turn left onto Fortini Rd towards the Santa Teresa Hills. At the end of Fortini, turn left onto San Vicente Ave. Parking is on the right.

Highlights: This flat trail runs along the bottom of the Santa Teresa Hills passing through grassland, chaparral, riparian habitats, and an old orchard. We'll look for Rufous-crowned Sparrows, Wrentits, returning swallows, and Wood Ducks.

Difficulty: 2-3 mile walk over possibly muddy/uneven trails.

Notes: Closest facilities at Calero County Park at the Rancho San Vicente entrance. Beginners welcome! Rain cancels, Kids ages 10+ are welcome, No facilities available.

Additional Notes: This trail has gone from possibly muddy to definitely muddy with very small creek crossing. Wear your waterproof shoes. I will test out the trail Tuesday morning. If conditions are not great, we will still meet Wednesday morning at the original location. We can bird the parking lot then caravan to Greystone Park on the corner of Camden and Mt Carmel Dr.
