Event Description
Enid Symphony and NWOSU Chorale
The Enid Symphony Association was established in 1971 to foster the Enid Symphony Orchestra, which was founded in 1906. In 1983 Douglas Newell became the first full-time Music and Executive Director of the Enid Symphony Association. The mission of the Enid Symphony Association is to maintain a symphonic ensemble that will enrich the quality of life in the Greater Enid area and serve as a cultural ambassador to the region and state. This is to be accomplished through the presentation of predominately classical symphonic music to an ever increasing audience representative of the diverse population of the constituent community.
The Northwestern Oklahoma State University
Chorale is the premiere large choir consisting of approximately 50 singers, all
of which are on scholarship. The Chorale is led by Karsten Longhurst, its new
director since 2015. Under Longhurst's leadership, the ensemble performs a
wide variety of sacred and secular choral music from Renaissance to contemporary including music
from all over the world. Many of the University Chorale members will be going on
tour to Austria and Czech Republic with the University Singers this summer.
Concert traditions include the Holiday Gala Concerts with the NWOSU Concert
Band, and spring masterworks concerts.
The Northwest Oklahoma Concert Series (NWOCS) serves residents of northwest Oklahoma by providing cultural experiences in the performing arts presented by professional musicians with regional, national and international acclaim.
